CONWAY -- Brittany Edwardes and Kathy Hill of the University of Central Arkansas have been awarded the Fulbright U.S. Student Program scholarship, the United States Department of State and the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board announced recently.

...more among the more than 1,700 U.S. citizens who will travel abroad for the 2012-2013 academic year through the Fulbright U.S. Student Program.
Edwardes, of Texarkana, will be going to Malaysia. Hill, of Benton, will be going to South Korea. Both students will be participating in an English Teaching Assistantship.
Edwardes graduated in May with a major in English and a minor in Interdisciplinary Studies through the Honors College. She studied social sciences and English in Thailand during the spring of 2011. She also taught English to children from age nine to 12 during her time in Thailand. Edwardes has interned for the Peace Corps, Arkansas State AmeriCorps and the Winthrop Rockefeller

According to the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, in 2010 nationally, 61 percent of the 10,647 passenger vehicle occupants who were killed in motor vehicle traffic crashes overnight (6 p.m. to 5:59 a.m.) were not wearing their seat belts at the time of the fatal crash, compared to 42 percent during the daytime hours.

BENTON, Ark. (KTHV) - A special investigations unit, comprised of Benton and Bryant officers, have arrested three people after an alleged counterfeiting scheme.

Police say the investigation led them to obtaining a warrant to search a home on W. Woodlawn in Benton. Many contraband
...more items were found that are used in making counterfeit money.

According to police, Savannah Richardson, 47, was arrested and charged with three counts of first degree forgery, and criminal possession of a forgery device.

In addition, police say Jonathan Cox, 20, and Amy Wise, 24 were arrested and charged with two counts of first degree forgery, criminal possession of a forgery device, marijuana possession, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Cox and Wise had warrants for their arrest on unrelated charges out of Benton and Haskell. The investigation is ongoing and more arrests are expected, according to police.

The Saline County Detention Center will be conducting a simulated fire scenario on May 10, 2012 at 10:00 A.M.  The Saline County Sheriff's Office and the Benton Fire Department will be conducting a training exercise to test the fire evacuation plan that is in place at the Detention Center.

SALINE COUNTY, Ark. (KTHV) - Authorities are investigating a reported kidnapping of a 23-year-old woman.

Saline County detectives have a warrant out for the arrest of Aaron Timothy Dillard, 30. He is accused of beating and kidnapping the female victim.

According to
...more authorities, the victim tells deputies that Dillard told her if she were to call police, he would kill her. The victim was reportedly kidnapped from a home on Bynum Road.

A short time after the kidnapping had been reported, authorities say the victim was dropped off at a family member's home in Little Rock.

Dillard is considered armed and dangerous. Anyone with information as to his whereabouts is asked to call the sheriff's office at (501) 303-5608 or (501) 303-5642.

BENTON, Ark. (KTHV) -- The Benton Police Department says citizens should be aware of an attempted theft of property and potential scam.

According to the department, someone reported Tuesday that a man acting as a repossessor came to his house and attempted to repossess his
...more four-wheeler.

This suspect was described as a bald white male approximately 6'1" tall, weighing 225 pounds, in a silver Dodge crew cab truck, which was pulling a black, beat up, goose neck trailer.

Police say the person claimed to be a repossessor for GE and he was sent because the payments were past due. The subject did not gain possession of the four-wheeler.

Anyone with information of the identity of the suspect is encouraged to contact the Benton Police Department at 778-1171 or 315-TIPS. Individuals also may send an anonymous tip about his whereabouts to CRIMES (274637) with the keyword BNPD in the body of the text.

FAYETTEVILLE (UA) - Along with a large contingent of Saline County Club members, there were several distinguished guests at the club meeting including President of the University of Arkansas system Dr. Donald Bobbitt and Board of Trustee member Sam Hilburn.

The club then held a live auction before listening to Anderson and Assistant Director of the Razorback Foundation, Marvin Caston speak. Police say they have found Payton Stone, 15. They say he ran away from his Benton home Apr. 21 and had not been seen since.

Inside this UALR Benton office, Michael Miller begins "Part Two" of his educational career. 

"It's exciting because it's new, it's never been offered in the state of Arkansas, so that was an instant draw for me," Miller said.

Miller, who has an Associate's degree, learns about the E-commerce degree. It's the campus' first four-year degree offering.

"I work at Walmart so I would like to become an assistant manager to start out with once I finish the degree," Miller said.

Climbing up the ladder at work and maybe down the road, Miller says, starting his own business with a degree in demand.
