LITTLE ROCK - At its Winter Conference Friday, the County Judges’ Association of Arkansas unanimously passed a resolution to oppose the ballot initiative underway to raise the state’s severance tax on natural gas.
“We’ve seen firsthand the positive impact natural gas production has had on
...more our counties, our communities, and on the lives of our citizens,” said Faulkner County Judge Preston Scroggin, president of the association.  “The industry has helped us weather the economic storm and has brought thousands of jobs to our state – jobs our folks have come to count on, and passing a tax increase would put all that in jeopardy.”

Berry said endowed chairs help the University in the budgeting process and add prestige when recruiting new faculty members.

...more contributing to that need.
If you’re not familiar with lignite, it is a low-grade form of coal.  Researchers have confirmed that Arkansas has at least four billion recoverable tons of lignite available and possibly as much as nine billion tons.  As of now, these resources are untapped.  It is just sitting in the ground.  The bulk of our reserves are estimated to lie in a triangle that extends from Texarkana over to Crossett and up into Saline County.
Lignite is typically recovered through surface mining and burned to make electricity.  However, new technologies are being developed to turn lignite coal into synthetic fuels, which adds an enormous amount of economic value to this
