DARDANELLE, Ark. (KTHV) - The Dardanelle School District superintendent says a student is under arrest for allegedly making serious threats about damaging the school and students.

Dardanelle police chief says the teen is Julian Calfy. He is being charged as an adult, but it is also
...more unknown when the arrest happened.

According to Superintendent John Thompson, police were somehow following the student electronically and found out some "very scary things."

Thompson says police notified the school and the student as expelled Dec. 19, 2011. Thompson says the police "did a great job of possibly avoiding a catastrophe."

Principal Lawrence says police did find evidence to corroborate the charges and they believe the student was actually planning to carry out his plan. The charges have not been released, either.

THV's Matt Buhrman is following up on this story and will have the latest on "Today's THV at 6:00" and todaysthv.com.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - The Arkansas Senate has approved using $2.6 million from the state's surplus to keep the financially troubled Arkansas Forestry Commission operating and to repay federal money state official say the commission improperly used to prop up its budget.

By a 34-0
...more vote Tuesday, senators approved legislation that would tap the state's surplus for the commission's needs.

The commission last year decided to lay off 34 employees after it faced a $4 million shortfall, but the state rehired 15 firefighters after shifting money in the state's budget. State Forester John Shannon resigned this month after an audit criticized his management and said the commission had improperly borrowed more than $6.4 million from federal grants to cover its payroll.

The measure now heads to the House.

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. (KTHV) -- The trial date is set in the civil suit Kevin Jones filed against two officers in the Nona Dirksmeyer murder investigation.
A federal judge set it for Feb. 11, 2013.
You'll recall -- a jury acquitted Jones in the murder. He is suing Russellville police
...more Detective Mark Frost and former police chief James Bacon -- claiming they ignored evidence pointing to another suspect.
The other suspect - Gary Dunn - was eventually tried twice, but released after both ordeals ended in mistrial.
Frost and Bacon argue in court papers that Jones received a fair trial.
Last week in a THV Extra, Liz Massey sat down with Jones to talk about this lawsuit and life after the murder trial. You can see it -- plus an extended interview with Jones -- at todaysthv.com.
