RUSSELLVILLE, Ark (KTHV) - Arkansas Tech University welcomed more than a thousand students into alumni status with three graduation ceremonies. One new graduate has quite a bit of life wisdom to offer society.

Eighty nine year old Charlie Ball from North Little Rock received his
...more Bachelors Degree. The former World War II pilot and Arkansas business man just wrapped up studies in public relations. Ball began his education more than 70 years ago at ATU, but it was interrupted by the call of duty.

"It is dangerous business being in the old Army Air Corp, or the Marines or Navy or anything like that," says Ball.

Ball was deployed to England in 1944 as a fighter pilot. Once back home, he studied at ATU and the University of Arkansas and then went into the dry cleaning business with his father. Then Ball switched careers.

"Then I got into real estate and land development, building houses and insurance then. I did that and retired about 10 years

He and his wife of 57 years, Dora, raised two sons and have been blessed with five grandchildren.
But there’s one goal that Charlie Ball never achieved --- earning his college degree.
That goal was suddenly within reach a few months ago when Ball saw a television advertisement for the Arkansas Tech University Accelerated Degree Program, which offers individuals with 60 or more transferable credit hours an opportunity to complete a bachelor’s degree within 18 months.
He made note of the telephone number in the ad and called to see what he would need to do to complete his degree.

Ball was connected with Dr. Beth Giroir, assistant professor in the

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - Arkansas officials are putting out a call for more foster families.

The Department of Human Services on Friday asked more people to volunteer to take in youths in need of a home.

The agency says last year nearly 8,000
...more children were in foster care in the state, with up to 4,000 in DHS care daily.

At present, the state has only 1,179 foster homes. The Division of Children and Family Services says having more homes available makes it more likely that siblings can be kept together. The agency says it also needs homes for older children and youths with special needs.

May is National Foster Care Month, and DHS is using the occasion to drum up more interest among families eligible to take in children in need of stable homes.

"We do education at the beginning of every fall semester and our coordinator of Greek life meets individually with all of the groups that are on campus." said Nicholson.

Prosecuting attorney for the 5th District David Gibbons said the filing of charges will depend on the severity of the incident. His office has yet to receive a report on the incident.

POPE COUNTY, Ark. (KTHV) - Habitat For Humanity builds home all across the country, including here in Arkansas. And this summer, a Pope County family will get the keys to the first Habitat home there.

The dominos go up and down. But CJ, Jaiden, Zach and Chase march on full of focus and more happiness these days.

"I was excited because I know I was going to get a new bedroom and everything like that," Jaiden Bragg said.

"I think this is a quiet street, so I ride a bike, so I thought I could go ride down the road by myself," Zach Chisum said.

Their mom, Nichole Ledford, came upon
